After my son’s autism diagnosis, I had a lot to learn. There were assessments, funding applications, therapy programs and school processes, often described with unfamiliar words.
I was trying to understand what my child needed while finding my footing as a parent. There were appointments to arrange and decisions to make. But there was not always someone to explain our options or help us think through the next step.
Over the years, I learned how much difference the right support can make for a child and their whole family.
My husband and I founded Bloom Abilities to offer the kind of partnership I wished we had found. Professional support that sees a child’s potential, explains the process and listens to the family.
Every family’s experience is different. I will never assume that yours is the same as mine. But I understand why being heard, informed and included matters.
Our story
A personal journey.
A purpose beyond therapy.
Founded by a husband and wife who know how hard it can be to find the right support. We believe every child deserves to be seen for their strengths, respected for who they are, and supported in everyday life.
Where Bloom began
The partnership I wished we had found.
Nurturing potential.
Supporting families.
Our mission
Everyday skills.
More ways to take part.
We help children and youth build skills they can use in daily life. We work with their families to provide practical, respectful support.
Our vision
Room to grow.
A place to belong.
A community where every child’s strengths are valued and they have the support and opportunities they need to grow.
Our guiding principles
Care is in the way we work.
These commitments shape how we listen, make decisions and support your family.
Start with strengths
We learn about your child’s strengths and interests. We build on what already helps them learn and take part.
Work with families
You help choose goals and review progress. What you know about your child helps us plan their care.
Choose useful goals
Goals should make daily life better for your child and family. They may focus on communication, independence, safety or joining in activities.
Respect and choice
We listen to your child’s preferences and how they communicate. We pay attention to their comfort and assent: their willingness to take part. Support should respect their dignity and avoid unnecessary limits on their choices.
Understand your family
We ask about your culture, language, faith, identity, routines and access needs. We do not assume that the same approach works for every family.
Be clear about care
We assess needs, write down plans, supervise care and review progress. We explain who is responsible, what services cost and what support we can offer.
Care you can understand
Clear roles.
Thoughtful care.
Shared decisions.
What to expect from your first steps How we plan and review care
Bloom is committed to safe, ethical care from qualified people. For services regulated in Ontario, the responsible professional must be authorized to practise here. Depending on the service, they may provide care directly or supervise other team members. We explain who is responsible for your child’s care and who will work with them.
Before care starts, we explain the goals, fees, team roles and how we will communicate. We ask for informed consent: your agreement after you understand the proposed care and can ask questions. We keep records, review progress and change the plan when needed.
Who is responsible for your child’s care
The co-founders’ experience as parents shapes our commitment to families. It does not replace professional training. The person responsible for your child’s care must have the qualifications needed for their role.
